The company was nominated by Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, OK. Cherokee CRC has provided a broad range of design-build, preconstruction, construction and construction management services for Tinker Air Force Base.
The Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year award recognized the outstanding contributions small businesses, including those owned and operated by minorities and women, make to the U.S. Department of State. Only companies demonstrating the highest degree of excellence in performance of U.S. Department of State contracts are nominated.
"We are so very excited and proud of our team for their superior work and dedication," said Cheryl Cohenour, president of Cherokee CRC. "To be nominated for this award by our client and selected by the SBA is a great recognition to the employees of Cherokee CRC and the Cherokee Nation as a whole."
The SBA selects a panel of judges made up of small business specialists from government agencies to select a winner from the pool of nominees. The nominees are judged by their overall management, delivery performance, technical capabilities, labor relations, cost performance, special achievements, resource utilization, customer interface, financial strength and exceptional results.
"All fo the nominees are considered to be the best small business prime contractors by the government agency making the nomination, so the winner is really the 'best of the best' in this region," said Bob Taylor, the SBA's area director for government contracting.
Cherokee CRC employees who worked on the Tinker AFB project will be attending the National Small Business Week celebration held in Washington D.C., May 18-20, where they will be recognized by the SBA.

The National Small Business Person of the Year, Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year, and Small Business Subcontractor of the Year will be announced and honored the week of May 22, 2011 at an event during National Small Business Week in Washington, DC.

Cherokee CRC, LLC has been awarded the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Best of the Best Award in Small Disadvantaged Business category. The award was presented to Cheryl Cohenour at the 2010 FAA National Small Business Procurement Opportunities Training Conference and Trade Show on June 29, 2010 in Oklahoma City, OK. Cherokee CRC was nominated for the award by FAA AFS-400 for outstanding support in numerous efforts during the past year.

Administrator's Corporate Financial Discipline Excellence Award for Diana Houck
Diana Houck of Cherokee CRC was one of a select group of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) employees and contractors who were awarded the "Financial Discipline Excellence Award" on May 19th, 2010 at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) in Oklahoma City, OK. Ms. Houck was recognized for her work in "improving the policies, processes and procedures as well as quality of its (the FAA) financial records". Diana Houck has been apart of the Cherokee CRC team since May of 2007 and she supports multiple FAA contracts from her location at the MMAC in Oklahoma City.

2009 Film Festival Award
Saturday October 10, 2009, Cherokee CRC, LLC was awarded "Best Interpretive Short Film" at the International Cherokee Film Festival 2009 for their TRAIL OF TEARS INTERPRETIVE FILM. The film was directed by Joshua Colover, written by Shane Smith, produced by Joshua Colover and Joseph Erb and executively produced by The United States National Park Service and Cheryl Cohenour.
The TRAIL OF TEARS film tells the story of a Cherokee's family experience as white encroachment on Cherokee lands eventually leads to their forced removal after the Indian Removal Act in 1830. The film captures the clashing of cultures and the devastating effects of federal policy. Cast included Woodrow Ross, Virginia Carey, Jaxin EnemyHunter, Tsahani Drowningbear, Gayla Mink and Nathalie Tomasik. This informative DVD will be shown at approximately 50 locations along the original Trail of Tears.
